REVIEW | The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Mask

DSC00150-01.jpegAdmittedly I’m a little late to the party when it comes to The Body Shop’s (TBS) expert facial masks, however they are now the latest additions to my skincare collection. There are currently six different masks, all of which are either vegetarian or vegan friendly. In addition to being vegan or vegetarian, they are also formulated without parabens, paraffins, silicone or mineral oils, making them super skin-friendly.

I re-discovered TBS back in November, and since then I have completely fallen in love with the brand all over again. From the initial eight products purchased in the first haul, my collection has grown extensively and now makes up the majority of my skincare routine.

When browsing a local TBS store, the temptation kicked in and I purchased my first (followed by others) expert facial mask.

The Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Face Mask is infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil to deeply cleanse, draw out impurities and refine the appearance of pores, leaving you with healthy-looking skin.

The three key ingredients:

Bamboo charcoal from the Himalayan Foothills – known to draw out impurities and excess oils from the skin.

Green tea leaves from Japan – rich in antioxidants and catechins, effectively to exfoliate the skin.

Community trade tea tree oil from Kenya – known to help keep skin clearer looking. Also known to help with skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis.

How to use it:

Once the skin has been cleansed and any makeup removed, smooth an even layer onto the face (avoiding eyes and lips). I use The Body Shop facial mask brush for an even layer, however an old (clean) foundation brush also works, or it can be applied using your fingers. The instructions suggest leaving it on for 5-10 minutes, however I leave it on until the mud dries (usually 12-15 minutes) before rinsing with warm water and a muslin cloth/cleansing sponge.

Use this mask 2-3 times per week, or daily if required.

My experience with the mask:

The application: I have very sensitive and dry skin and haven’t experienced any irritations/problems with it. Upon application, I experience a very small tingling sensation, however that’s normal for me when using products containing tea tree oil, and doesn’t cause any discomfort.

The results: Even after the first application, my skin felt incredibly soft and skin appeared more refined and glowing, and following 4 weeks of use, these results have continued to fill me (and my skin) with absolute joy.

What’s good about it?

Honestly, everything! I’ve used similar masks from various other brands and the TBS one is in a different league. It’s also 100% vegan which is another huge bonus!

What’s not great about it?

Not much, the tingling feeling isn’t unpleasant, but also not lovely either.

How much does it cost?

£17 for 75ml

Would I repurchase?

100%

How do I use it?

Depending on my skin, I usually use this as part of a multimask routine, along with two other expert facial masks (pop back soon to find out which ones).
